The award, was announced during the General Faculty Meeting on April 22, was established in honor of Shirley Van Epps Waple.<\/p>\n<p>Based on faculty nominations, the award\u00a0recognizes a wide range of professional accomplishments undertaken during the faculty member\u2019s time at UMW. In its third year, the award is based on the significance and impact of the faculty nominee\u2019s scholarly, creative, and\/or professional achievement. The winner must have been a full time faculty member for at least seven years.<\/p>\n<p>Kilmartin\u00a0began his career at UMW\u00a0in 1989 and was recognized for\u00a0his\u00a0breadth of professional experiences, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>He has\u00a0been a Fulbright Fellow and a Distinguished Visiting Professor<\/li>\n<li>He has\u00a0published numerous peer-reviewed publications, chapters in a wide range of books, and published a textbook that has been re-released in several editions<\/li>\n<li>He has been invited as a trainer and workshop leader at many Universities, and professional associations<\/li>\n<li>He has served as a Chair, Discussant and Keynote Speaker at conferences around the world<\/li>\n<li>He has been a scriptwriter and consultant for instructional films, and is the author of a solo performance piece on men\u2019s issues that has been performed over 200 times<\/li>\n<li>He has served as a counselor\u00a0at the University of Mary Washington\u2019s counseling center.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Professor of Psychology Chris Kilmartin\u00a0is the recipient of the 2015 Waple Faculty Professional Achievement Award.
