The award, was announced during the General Faculty Meeting on April 22, was established in honor of Shirley Van Epps Waple.<\/p><p>Based on faculty nominations, the award&nbsp;recognizes a wide range of professional accomplishments undertaken during the faculty member&rsquo;s time at UMW. In its third year, the award is based on the significance and impact of the faculty nominee&rsquo;s scholarly, creative, and\/or professional achievement. The winner must have been a full time faculty member for at least seven years.<\/p><p>Kilmartin&nbsp;began his career at UMW&nbsp;in 1989 and was recognized for&nbsp;his&nbsp;breadth of professional experiences, including:<\/p><ul>\n<li>He has&nbsp;been a Fulbright Fellow and a Distinguished Visiting Professor<\/li>\n<li>He has&nbsp;published numerous peer-reviewed publications, chapters in a wide range of books, and published a textbook that has been re-released in several editions<\/li>\n<li>He has been invited as a trainer and workshop leader at many Universities, and professional associations<\/li>\n<li>He has served as a Chair, Discussant and Keynote Speaker at conferences around the world<\/li>\n<li>He has been a scriptwriter and consultant for instructional films, and is the author of a solo performance piece on men&rsquo;s issues that has been performed over 200 times<\/li>\n<li>He has served as a counselor&nbsp;at the University of Mary Washington&rsquo;s counseling center.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Professor of Psychology Chris Kilmartin&nbsp;is the recipient of the 2015 Waple Faculty Professional Achievement Award.
