 UMW Faculty, Staff and Students, <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>

This message is a follow up to last week’s email that explained WHY<\/b><\/span> changes will be occurring to UMW’s parking, effective January 2018. Today’s message addresses <\/span>HOW<\/span><\/b> we plan to address the proposed changes by the City of Fredericksburg.   <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>

Studies were done by our parking professionals earlier this fall to determine parking lot usage. There are numerous spaces generally available in the William Street lot<\/b><\/span> and in the <\/span>Alvey parking deck<\/span><\/b>. Additionally, we have capacity in the <\/span>Battleground lot<\/span><\/b> (by the soccer field) and on <\/span>Hanover Street<\/span><\/b> (which is outside the planned ‘resident only’ parking restrictions in College Heights). There are also a limited number of spaces in the <\/span>Eagle Landing parking deck<\/span><\/b> (this deck requires a fob to enter).   <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>

We plan to open the Sunken Road gate and run <\/span>a shuttle for two hours in the mornings and afternoons (times TBD based on needs) from the Alvey parking deck and Battleground lot down College Avenue, making three stops (behind GW, at the UC, and at duPont). There will be no cost to anyone to ride the shuttle.   <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>

Additionally, we are in conversations with the Fredericksburg Bus System about adding other routes to assist us.   <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>

Many faculty, staff, and students have reached out to the Mayor and City Council members to express their concerns about the new parking regulations. President Paino continues to work with the City Manager on a compromise. We are hopeful that not all of the regulations will be enacted, but are making plans in case no compromise is reached.   <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>
