The following information is important for anyone using Zoom to host meetings.\u00a0 If you do not use Zoom, you can disregard this message.<\/b><\/div>\n

With the <\/span>increasingly <\/span>widespread use of Zoom, we\u2019re seeing <\/span>a rush of<\/span> \u201cZoom bombing\u201d <\/span>– uninvited participants dropping into Zoom meetings to share inappropriate or distracting audio, video, or images. <\/span>To <\/span>prevent <\/span>this, <\/span>Digital Learning Support is m<\/span>aking <\/span>some <\/span>changes<\/span> to <\/span>the default settings of <\/span>our <\/span>UMW-owned<\/span> Zoom accounts, and<\/span> offering <\/span>the following<\/span> safety tips for <\/span>anyone using Zoom<\/span> (whether a free, shared, or UMW<\/span>-owned<\/span> account)<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

    Avoid sharing<\/span> your meeting link publicly (on social media or a public website).<\/span> Share the link in a closed environment like Canvas or direct email.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    Change your screen sharing settings<\/span><\/a> to \u201cHost Only.\u201d Note<\/span>: If you are using a UMW-owned Zoom account, we have edited the settings to make this the default. You will need to change the settings during your meeting if you want to allow other participants to share their screen.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    Consider turning on the <\/span>Waiting Room feature<\/span><\/a>. This will require the host to approve every <\/span>participant before entry into the meeting.<\/span> Keep in mind that if a participant is disconnected<\/span>,<\/span> you will need to re-approve them for entry, so this option requires keeping<\/span> an eye on your Zoom notifications during the meeting.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    Alternatively, c<\/span>onsider locking your meeting<\/span> (<\/span>via the \u201cManage Participants\u201d button<\/span> in your Zoom tool tray<\/span>)<\/span> once all attendees are present. Keep in mind that if a participant loses connection, they will not be able to reenter unless you unlock the meeting.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Feel free to use these tools at your own discretion. Some may work for your meetings, some may not.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
