{"id":13069,"date":"2016-09-19T11:55:04","date_gmt":"2016-09-19T15:55:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/webarchive.umw.edu\/ufc\/?p=13069"},"modified":"2016-09-19T12:00:03","modified_gmt":"2016-09-19T16:00:03","slug":"james-farmer-multicultural-committee-minutes-9-8-16","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/webarchive.umw.edu\/ufc\/2016\/09\/19\/james-farmer-multicultural-committee-minutes-9-8-16\/","title":{"rendered":"James Farmer Multicultural Committee Minutes 9 8 16"},"content":{"rendered":"<?xml encoding=\"utf-8\" ?><p>James Farmer Multicultural Center Faculty Advisory Committee<\/p><p>Minutes<\/p><p>September 8, 2016<\/p><p>4:00 pm<\/p><p>Members Present:&nbsp; Dr. Marion Sanford, Director of JFMC; Dr. Jose Sainz (Chair); Dr. Antonio Causarano (Secretary); Dr. Leo Lee; Dr. Melody Denhere (Absent); Dr. Xiaofeng Zhao.<\/p><ul>\n<li>Jose introduced the newest member of the committee &ndash; Dr. Leo Lee. Marion stated that the two student representatives should be appointed by the next committee meeting.<\/li>\n<li>It was announced that the minutes will be approved at the next meeting.<\/li>\n<li>A brief history and review of the purpose of the JFMC FAC was provided.<\/li>\n<li>Marion gave an overview of the year-long Cultural Awareness Series events, especially highlighting the various speakers and performers who are coming to campus. This is the 23<sup>rd<\/sup> year of the implementation of this series.&nbsp; She also shared the upcoming programs with the 2016 Latino Identities Month Celebration (Sept 15 &ndash; Oct 15).&nbsp; It was announced that the keynote performance for the Asian Cultural Celebration, scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 30<sup>th<\/sup>, was canceled by the group.<\/li>\n<li>Marion reported that this is the fifth year of the RISE Peer Mentoring program. This year&rsquo;s cohort includes 35 peer mentees (new students) and 28 mentors (upperclass students).&nbsp; The Meet &amp; Greet was held on Tuesday, August 30<sup>th<\/sup>.&nbsp; Their first workshop is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 14<sup>th<\/sup>.&nbsp; The participants are a diverse and energetic group.&nbsp;&nbsp; They are anticipating another great year with the program.<\/li>\n<li>Also, budget and funding was also discussed.<\/li>\n<li>An update on staffing in the JFMC was provided.
